More Email problems I'm afraid, something has decided to wipe most of my folders from Outlook Express so I have lost all my correspondence. If you are awaiting a reply from me please email me again! If you do not receive a reply from me please make sure you have entered your address correctly on the contact page as many are coming back as unknown addresses, alternatively mail me direct. Also check your spam filters are not rejecting me.
I can now accept Paypal for purchases. This does cost me money so if we could keep it for larger amounts or overseas then I would be grateful. Still more than happy to accept cash (registered post please) cheques, postal orders (all in GBP sterling) or, of course, swaps.
For the first time since I started this I am going to have to raise postage rates in line with Royal Mail, I've put this off as long as I can but I am losing money on most parcels now. Minimum charge is now £2.50.
News and recently added stuff to the site...
If any links/new pages don't work correctly please let me know!
21st July 08 - Added what must be all of the Scalextric Ford Escort Mk1, Capri, XR3i and RS200 models I have left to the for sale list. See here
11th February 08 - Added a few more cars to my for sale section but have loads more to go. If there is something you are looking for, especially mini coopers (I have most variations) let me know and I'll see what I can find.
6th December 07 - Finally started to add some of my cars for sale, see here. Scalextric, SCX etc plus some accessories. Some priced to sell, some priced to keep (I'll let you work out which is which). Some are going very quickly so have a look. More to come over the next few weeks.
20th November 07 - Once again I have received a mention in Model Collector magazine, this time for my Vauxhall HA Viva SL90. Only mentioneded in passing but they have used one of my photographs.
28th April 07 - On behalf of a friend I have the rarer Airfix series 1 bagged Bond Bug kit available. It has had the header removed and restapled to a new bag but looks to be all complete with transfers and complaints slip and mostly on the sprues. We are open to sensible offers either cash or swaps from my wants page.
27th April 07 - I have just received a 1/25th Pyro Triumph GT6+ plastic kit from friend Tor Henning Ertsland, all the way from Norway would you believe, and its a real gem. Photos at some point when I get the time (don't hold your breath). Tor is making a diorama model of an early eighties British scrap yard in which Onethirtysecond models will feature quite largely. as by then that is where most of the real ones had ended up! I'm not sure why a Norwegian would be interested in old British scrap yards but it's a great project and I have seen examples of his modelling so should be a great model.
27th April 07 - Yours truly features not once but twice in the June edition of Model Collector magazine, once under Herald models and once under Anglia. If it had only been once I wouldn't have mentioned it.....Regular visitors will recognise the photos as being mine too.
28th January 07 - Update on the 1/24th Ford 100E Prefect project - a few copies available
12th January 07 - Please note that for the forseeable future the static wheel sets are not available, sorry about this. Scalextric minilites still available.
16th November 06 - A 1/32nd scale Ford 100E?! No, but almost as interesting. A fascinating 1960s 1/24th plastic kit of the humble Ford 100E Prefect by Premier very kindly loaned by Tom Wysom in Canada. Can you tell us more?
15th November 06 - Unusual slot car bargain? Available due to non payment by customer (you know who you are) is an approximately 1/36th Jaguar XJ12 Coupe slot car based around a brand new PCS32 chassis with Ninco sprung guide, Scalex XJ220 wheels, mabuchi S motor etc (all brand new) and a specially made clear vac formed body (unpainted). Body is mounted the old fashioned way by pins mounted into horizontal tubes and 4 spare bodyshells are included. Completely un used - although I may have run the motor/gears in but I have been waiting so long I can't remember. Got to be unique?! £30 doesn't go anywhere towards what he owes me and I won't be doing anymore. FROM NOW ON ALL COMMISIONS ARE PAID FOR IN FULL IN ADVANCE! - Now sold thanks
11th November 06 - Looks like Hornby have bought Airfix (phew) but not sure about Humbrol. I am told they paid around £3,500,000 which if true represents a real bargain I should think. Wouldn't it be nice if they decided to adapt some of the old car kits for Scalextric (FD Victor estate slot car with side winder motor anyone?) but wishful thinking in the extreme!
4th October 06 - Blimey! How could I have forgotten about this? Yours truly recieved a two page colour spread in the December 2005 edition of Scale Models International Collector magazine (The best selling independent model magazine don't you know) - fame at last! Most of the info contained will be familiar to readers of this site but, a few minor labelling errors aside, it's lovely (and not a little wierd) to see your work in print. If you would like to read it click here. (This is in pdf format so you will need Adobe Acrobat to open it, which you will probably already have or is downloadable for free from the Adobe website. Size is 1.2m but I didn't know how to make it any smaller).Used by permission.
1st October 06 As my interest shifts ever more towards model railways (I know but I'm over 40 now so it's allowed, just to show I still have a vestige of street credibilty I am in a rock band, honest, see Travelling Shoes if you don't believe me, and I still ride a British motorbike, oh OK I'm a bit of a saddo) I have finaly started to list some of my slot cars for sale, starting with my boxed non Scalextric stuff - Reprotec, Ninco, SCX etc. Some of it quite cheap I think, more to follow when I get a moment.
1st October 06 I have finaly got around to updating the list of who made/makes what models of 60s/70s British saloons in 1/32nd scale. There have been loads of releases sinces I first did this (some of which look suspiciously familiar...) so no doubt I haven't picked up them all.
20th September 06 It is with great sadness that I heard today that Airfix have gone bust (again). Can't really imagine the world without them around somehow. Probably true of all men my age. Frankly it's not all that surprising but hopefuly somebody will buy them - get those Viva kits while you still can! Perhaps more worrying is that the parent company Humbrol have also gone bust, now I may have built a few hundred Airfix kits but I have bought thousands of little pots of paint - I can manage without the kits as there wasn't too many in the current range of interest anyway but I can't do without the paint! Please somebody buy Humbrol so I don't have to use that Revell goop.
15th September 06 Is anybody besides me interested in new brushes for the 60s/70s Tri-ang RX motor (X04 to you train people) and the near identical Spanish version? Let me know so I can see if it's worth getting any in. I will have to buy in some quantity to make it worthwhile but would provisionaly hope to sell for around £3 to £3.50 a pair.
24th April 06 New spares added, brand new power sledge motors (now sold out, sorry) and 4WD rubber drive bands
14th April 06 I have been running down stocks of the shells made by other manufacturers and only have a few left, last chance!
12th April 06 Airfix classic car set featuring the HA viva (see news Feb 06) is apparently now out, although not in my local shop. Will let you know what it's like when I get one.
10th April 06 The last of the Avenger Tiger and Dolomite slot car kits have now been sold, that's your lot, finito, won't be doing that again, missed your chance etc, although the Dolomite remains available as a body shell only kit. If you have bought a Tiger kit (you have one of only 12 in the world) and are having problems with the transfers let me know and I will supply some more as I have a few left over. I may make a ready to run Tiger to order if requested but no more kits, cost would be around £75.
19th March 06 Pictures of a nicely built Frog 1/16th Ford Cortina Mk1 by John Taylor
March 06 The first review type build of a resin shell kit is now available - the BMC 32 mini commercials.
March 06 Scalextric for sale! I have started to add a variety of things for sale which are taking up much needed space, including slot cars, plastic kits, brand new scalextric spares etc plus I have slightly reorganised the resin section, click here. More stuff will be added as I find the time.
Feb 06 Good news from Airfix - due spring 2006 is Classic Car collection 07901 featuring re releases of the Mk1 Ford Escort, Triumph Herald 1200 and the HA Vauxhall Viva! Presumably the Escort and Herald will be the same as the 1990s re releases ( I don't suppose Airfix will take the opportunity of adding the strangely absent rubber bumpers to the Herald) but the Viva at first glance seems a strange choice as it was not the most popular of cars in either real or model form. Strange untill you consider what choice Airfix had left from it's impressive back catalogue - most of the sports cars have been done in recent years, as have the Escort, Herald and VW. The moulds for the Lotus Cortina, Capri, Zodiac and Victor estate (although this last one never made it into production) where all altered into custom cars in the early eighties and the moulds for the Maxi (and I would guess the Marina) are damaged beyond ecconomic repair so there wasn't much left. Presumably the Mercedes 280 SL and Jaguar 420 tooling was not available (or there may be licencing difficulties?) as these would have been superior choices. I'm not knocking it however and will certainly be getting a few and may make that Herald 1200 estate I always promised myself by grafting on the rear of one of my 13/60 estate shells. For more on the original Airfix range of kits see here.
No progress has been made on any new shells since the last update so if you are waiting for the HB Viva, fastback Rapier etc then I'm afraid it will be a while yet.
Right, announcements over, back to normal!
This website is dedicated to the scratch building and converting of everyday model cars in 1/32nd scale for either slot racing or as static models.
I guess I've got to blame Airfix for this, even more than Scalextric, it was their reintroduction of some of their 1960s sports car kits in the early 90s that rekindled my interest in plastic model cars.
Fitting Scalextric parts and slot racing them was but a short step from that.
However, when it became apparent that Airfix were unlikely to remanufacture any of their superb everyday saloon cars, I decided to make my own, first vacuum forming (see the gallery for some "from the vaults") over carved wooden blocks or salvaged Airfix shells before finally biting the bullet and making resin shells.
Hand making masters and creating silicone moulds takes a long time and a fair bit of money. In order to recoup some of the costs I am able to supply resin bodyshell kits of many wonderful 60s and 70s cars that are overlooked by the major manufacturers, for either slot racing or as the basis of static models.
If you are looking for Ferraris or Porsches you've come to the wrong place, however if you have a hankering for a Ford Anglia or a Triumph Dolomite to make an unusual Scalextric slot car or nostalgic static model you could just be in heaven....
